There is such a strong power in being thankful for the things in your life. I hear people all the time (myself included) complain about all of the things that are going wrong in their lives but never take the time to be thankful for the positive things in life. I remember one day looking at an old photo and thought to myself "Hmmm, I wish I could get back to that weight." When I think back on how I felt during that time I wished I could be smaller then. We often take so much inventory on how we wish things could be different spiritually, physically, and emotionally. We can eliminate a lot of stress in our lives if we just take the time to give God thanks in our lives for what is going good. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 say "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (NIV). Robert Emmons, a psychology professor at the University of California foutd that those who adopt an "attitude of gratitude: as a permanent state of mind experienced many health benefits. 

So how do you begin to be thankful you might ask?

  1. Focus your attention on outward things vs. inward- Remember that life is not always about you. Rather focus on how you can help someone else reach their goals
  2. Be mindful of what you already have- Find the things that you are  blessed to have and continue to thank God for those things
  3. Keep a positive mindset- Whatever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, if there be any virtue, and if their be any praise, then think on these things (Philippians 4:8)
